Water Security For Israel
- While Greening the Desert

Genesis Lake MapIsrael’s water challenge presents an opportunity to develop Israel’s Negev as new population magnet while creating a new economic era for Israel.

The magnitude of the problems which now threatens the Kinneret, the Jorden River and thus Israels strategic water access justifies a national initiative that will simultaneously provide Israel with water security while strengthening a number of other critical national priorities including, Economic development, demographics, environment and long term strategic security.

The Genesis Project, founded by Ofir Ben Boher recommends a radical but feasible plan that would lead to the creation of a new Israeli Water Reservoir in the heart of Israel’s northern Negev owned and managed by Israel and supplying enough water to sell both domestically and to neighbor states.

The Vision

The Plan envisions creating a metropolis situated around a new fresh water body that would be created by filling one of Israel’s largest desert craters’, the Machtesh Hadadol, with water drawn from the Mediterranean , desalinated at the coast and led along a 90 Kilometer canal to the Canal.

Filling the Machtesh would take three years and would be saved and produced by a series of dams. The area around the Machtesh would provide miles of new coastline allowing for recreational tourism.  The Genesis Lake would act as Israel’s main national Water Reservoir. The Keneret Lake would be left to replenish itself, the Jordan and the Dead Sea.  The project would present attractive development opportunities in all sectors of the private sphere with emphasis  on tourism and alternative energy development.  The Project would create revenue from the water supply further supporting local employment.  Projects of this magnitude are undertaken by other developed nations and Israel has the technical and infrastructure resources to accomplish it.
